06 SLT 4x4 Fuel Mileage
So I have a 06 SLT 4X4 and my in town mileage sits around 11.8 to 12.5. Does anyone else have these low MPG? I know that the estimated in town should be around 13/14 and on highway around 17/19. I am lucky to get 15 on the highway. My truck only has 108K. The only thing I have done to the engine is put a CAI from airaid on it, but even before that it was getting the same fuel mileage. Is there anything I should do to help increase my MPG as I am tired of putting $40+ a week for less than 200 miles on a tank.

They are big, heavy, square, and many have a nice-sounding V8 that rewards generous use of the right foot.
Oh I know its not a smartcar. I have replaced the lower control arms on both sides and put a 1.5" shock/strut spacers, so maybe a little aerodynamic drag increase due to that. I don't have a lead foot, gas here is close to $3 a gallon and can't afford to. Just looking at what I could change out or replace that may help squeeze a few more MPG than I have now. I am getting ready to replace the Throttle Position Sensor and then then after that will be the coil-over packs and then plugs soon, maybe that might help a bit.

Here's a guy who swapped in a diesel into a 3rd gen. If you have tons of money and time, it can be done.

I showed 16.3 mpg at my last fillup which was good, had been in the 14's the past couple months. I quit bitching a long time ago since i rarely have to put any money into this truck, it averages out. You do get penalized for having 4wd, plus any tire upgrade will knock down economy as well.
In my experience with the 3rd gen dakotas is to get the 6cyl standard cab with the g238 6spd manual trans if you want to get good fuel economy and drive it like a grandma and you can get 17mpg around town and 19-20mpg highway, and keep the tires aired up.But where's the fun in that?
