Default 2006 Dakota Park Brake Release Handle Broken

Hi my 2006 brake release latch is broken and I have bought a replacement part. The part looks like the rod just pops in and the latch it self looks like it should pop on the retaining rod. I tried to pull the broken latch off thinking it would pop off with decent amount of pulling/pressure but it didnt....before I go all out Hulk on it I wanted to check with you guys...Is there a certain way I should get it to pop off? use a flat head to pry with some where? Surely this has got to be a common problem due to poor design, so Im guessing someone smarter than I can help...Help!

It's been about a year since I did one on my wife's truck but from what I remember the upper hinge of the release handle just unsnaps from the dash and then you unlatch the rod from the handle and then remove from the truck. You'll probably have to remove the remains of the broken latch from the rod before installing the new unit.To install I think you just latch the rod to the handle and then snap the hinge to the dash and that's it.It was pretty self explanatory from what I recall. There are you tube videos on it if you do some poking around.

That's the procedure. There is an over-tab on the end of the rod the slips over the bent end, then snaps on to the straight part.03454220 1 1, 5 33, 84 CLIP, Parking Brake Cable, Release Rod, Mounting

Where did you guys get this part? I've been meaning to stop by the junkyard to get one. Asked my wife to pop the hood awhile back, she pulled the park release and broke it.

I've had two break, one on my 2006 (in sig picture) and one on my 2008 (current). I just epoxied mine back together and put it back in. Daughter broke mine in the '08. The pedal stays down so you have to pull it up gently with your toe. She put her whole foot on the rod and snapped it out of the handle, taking the connection with it. Doh!

Got mine from ebay, its a ****ty design..Thats what I thought about snapping the old one off but damn I used decent force and it didnt budge but I guess Ill go Hulk on it and see what happens. I looked all over utube b4 I posted and none were for my truck but 1 and it started with the broken handle removed..So I wondered how since mine seems not to want to

The part can be obtained at any Mopar dealer or online or maybe a local salvage yard if they have your color.

Thanks for the part numbers and all, Ordered one for $13 off ebay, not worth my time checking the junkyard for that price.
