2011 trac lok in my 2006 carrier?
Waiting for my local pick a part to get a posi rear end I finally hauled an axle out of a 2011 Dakota with a 9 1/4 trac lok rear end with 3.92 gears out of there. I've taken the trac lok out of the axle with the matching pinion and bearings as the hub assembly was busted clean off at the passenger side axle. Swapping out the entire axle was not an option as the end of the axle tube was damaged when the passenger side axle sheared off in the roll over. Hope the poor bastard driving survived.
I know I'll need a rebuild bearing kit before I try to install in my 2006 9 1/4 carrier but I don't want to start down that road if I'm going to find that this trac lok wont fit in place of my open dif.
I've read some info that changes were made after 2010 to the ring gear and bolts. In fact the 2011 ring gear bolts have L kx on them so they must be the newer heavier left thread bolts.
I'm hoping that if I don't try to re-gear the 2011 trac lok that it will fit in the 2006 housing as a whole. My 2006 open dif is 3.92 as well so I'm not changing ratio even though I was hoping to find a 3.55.
Anyone done this before? or know any glaring problems I'll run into?

I have a 2011 Dakota and re-geared it with the regular 9-1/4 gear set used for all the previous gen 9-1/4 rear ends. While they did make a change it was only on the full size Ram. They left the Dakota alone since it was generally end of life.
Thanks. I was thinking the rear end might be the same. The cover, axle and everything else looks the same. The update post's I've read say a new cover the the 1500's is the tell for the newer rear end so this got my hopes up.
