Default bullet proof 545RFE suggested aftermarket parts for rebuild?

My 2005 4.7L QuadCab 4x4 is starting to throw a few transmission overheat codes and it jumped into limp mode twice after I did a "spill and fill" with filter changes. So, I assume I'm in for a full transmission rebuild in the near future.
What parts should I start amassing?
What torque converter?
What stall speed for daily driving and occasional off-roading and even more occasional towing??
What brand and style clutches?
Sonex or Transgo shift kit?
Aftermarket pan worth it?

Honestly it's a "hardware store 2x4 getter" with the annual camping/ hunting trip. But I'd like to build up the tranny for the best possible reliability and fuel economy.

Thanks.
Rich

Unless you've done a lot of trans work before I wouldn't touch that think. its electronic and mechanical. I Bought a reman trans and had the place I bought it install and warranty it for 1800. just about the best 1800 Ive spent. im at the end of the warranty and have not had a single problem or bad shift or any problems. and Im getting better mileage than ever 15.1 around town and it always got 13-14 before. but mine is a 42rle 2 wheel. still wouldn't touch that trans

first off what makes you think its going bad, also does it have a factory cooler, if not your cheapest bet would be to install one and see if that works.

I'm getting intermittent MILs for solenoid A failure, intermittent temperature sensor and over heating(even though it's not overheating). (P0750, P0714, P0218)
It has the in radiator cooler, but no external transmission cooler currently.
I have a B&M sitting on the table that I wanted to install this weekend.

Edit: stay on subject.
Edit: pulled codes

So much for intermittent problems.
Tranny is now solidly in limp mode. I will be taking it to a shop later in the week.
Wish I had the time to cherry pick some quality parts.

Anyone know what the stall rpm is for the torque converter for the 45RFE in a 2005 Dakota Quad Cab 4.7L 4x4?

From talking with a few torque converter re-builders it would seem that my stock torque converter is rated at 2200rpm stall. A few companies provide "low" stall converters that are rated at approximately 1700 rpm stall that are intended for the 5.7L Rams and Jeeps.

Anyone have any first hand experience with one of these low stall converters in the 45RFE with a 4.7L?

I got the truck back after the shop replaced the solenoid pack and installed the Sonnax valves (I'm not exactly sure which ones were replaced). The transmission does seem to hold a tiny bit better.

Unfortunately the overheat light came as soon as I pulled in to my driveway 2.5 miles away from the shop. Back to the shop it went. When they drove it around with a scan tool connected they would see the computer report the temp spiking the 270 then back to normal. They said it was an instantaneous change from about 170-180 to the 270 and back a short time later.
Also when they connected the scanner with the engine and tranny cold they would see the computer reporting the tranny temp as -2F. So they connected the old solenoid pack to the wiring harness, grounded it and it also showed -2F.

So the current diagnosis is the computer needs to be replaced. The shop couldn't find anything wrong with the wiring harness.

Anyone have experience with the online rebuild PCM?
Anyone know if the temperature monitor in the solenoid pack is a thermocouple or thermistor?

The shop suggested I take it to the dealer as they don't have the equipment to flash a PCM.

You can get reman pcm by mopar with a warranty at a local autoparts store or online through rockauto.Just grab the part number off your existing unit and do a search. You might be able to save a little by sourcing a good used one.

Dorman 265-817 supplies a tranny pan with a drain plug that makes it very convenient for fluid changes without making any mess and LubeLocker LLT-CRFE supplies a excellent reusable gasket for the ultimate in convenience.
