Default Exhaust Power

2006 Dodge Dakota 4.7 SLT 175,000 Miles
Quick Question. When getting an Aftermarket Exhaust/Muffler is there any noticeable difference in Power or MPG? Obviously it will be louder and sound cooler. I just wanted to know if this can make a difference.

Changing just the muffler, or even doing cat back, won't make a noticeable difference. Headers, and a free flowing cat will though.

It will make your mileage worse because you won’t be able to keep your foot out of the gas because it will sound so awesome. Tuner would be your best bang for the buck mod though.

I had that problem on my Firebird.... put a good exhaust on it, and had to replace the radiator, as I was always sticking my toenail in it.

I bought some Doug Thorley shorty headers on sale for my 2006 (2007 up have a different exhaust pattern). They came with a dyno sheet showing 28 ft/lbs of torque improvement at 2800rpm. I don't remember the horsepower claims, but it did improve the performance enough that it shifted down one less gear going over the bridge from Savannah to Hutchinson island towing our 16' dual axle equipment trailer for our autocross club.
