Hello, New to the forum. Bought a 2006 SLT crewcab 4.7 about a month ago. I love the truck. But I only got one key with it. There is no alarm. Just have the keyless entry key/fob. I have now tried 5 keys that I have purchased, all of which stated in the auction that they matched the FCC ID number, etc, etc. 4 of them have a different button pattern and one matches my working key. I have had one dealer try to get two of them working and a independent locksmith try the other 3, including the matching button pattern. They just are not communicating with the truck. I am just about ready to drive the truck to a local Dodge dealer, hand them the key, and say "here make me another one." I even have a plain flat metal key cut to the ignition and it will start the car just fine. So probably not a Sentry setup. I have read also that some trucks didn't come with a factory alarm and this appears to be the case with mine. I would honestly appreciate any information or suggestions as to how I should proceed. I want to end up with three programmed keys.
All my thanks.

You need to have them programmed by someone with the computer program. They plug into the OBD plug and program your keys. I used a local storefront called Mr Remote, check around there is probably one near you. It cost me about $20. If you have two working keys, you can do it yourself, but with one you can't (for security purposes).
You say you had one dealer try and fail to program a remote, A Dodge dealer?
What did they say, or did they just say 'We can't program your cheap key, but will sell you one of our keys', and not attempt to program your key?
Did you get your FCC number off of your key fob?
And yeah, as stated above, you need two working key fobs to program them yourself. I always get at least a third key for my vehicles, I currently have four for my truck.
Thank you for the replies. Both a dealer and a locksmith who has come out to the truck have told me that the keys are not being recognized by the truck computer so they can't program them. I do have the one working key and it has the FCC number and such on the back of the key. After perusing forums, may I ask this? Is it possible that somewhere hidden is another key that allows that plain blank key to start the car? I have removed the steering column covers and have seen no key strapped to the column or anything like that. I think I'm looking at a truck that only has keyless entry but no "chip" key required and no alarm. I wondered if a second factory key hidden somewhere may be stopping me from getting other keys programmed. I have no Mr. Remote locally but I do know of one other locksmith business that is highly recommended. I will try them and see if they can get any of these keys that I have to work. If not, I will hit a dealer up and just pay whatever I need to so I can have spare remote keys. I'm open to any other suggestions.
Again thank you to all.
There is no hidden key. You have a chipped key, otherwise it would start up and run. The gray keys are the non chipped keys.
If you use one of the cut keys, does the truck run for two seconds and then shut off?
I would ask that locksmith if he can get a new key and program it, it would be cheaper than the dealer. It's possible that the ones that you bought are the wrong one needed for your truck, listings are not always correct.
Sorry I should clarify. The truck will start, run, and drive with any of the currently cut keys I have, blank or fob combo. It never shuts off by itself. Just can't get the ones I bought to program to lock and unlock the doors remotely. I have a call in to a reputable locksmith. We'll see how that goes.
I found this information. From http://www.northlandlocksmith.com/moparchips/ I found a non transponder key but with remote attached for keyless enty and it's coming. I'll let you know how it goes with that one. I talked to a locksmith here and he said he remembers that the non transponder cars were interspersed in the 05 06 years through production, either by design or just to use up what the factory had so they could go all transponder. He used to have some of the non transponder keyless entry keys but has since sold them off.
The Sentry Keys came with the Security Group, which was standard on the SLT model (With 'E' Package, the 'D' Package SLT did not have Sentry Keys) and Laramie Dakotas.
And the Dakota ceased production in 2011, so they're list above isn't totally accurate.
Thank you. I have a pdf of the sales brochure and you are on point with that. Yeah lists are rarely gospel. :-)
So from what you have described, the D and E packages, my truck came with the 2TD and 26D customer preferred packages. Do you know if the "D" in these designations refers to those packages?

Go here. Click on "equipment listing" and feed it your VIN. That will tell you exactly what came on your truck from the factory.
