More like there is a small hole on that side of the frame not large enough for a socket .
not seeing how the bolt comes out. Nut is easy to access .
I suppose by your logic the bed is in the way take it off also .
so I can remove the bed and the tank , then there is still just a small hole to acces the bolt.

The FSM that is linked on this site says nothing about removing the gas tank.
Basically raise the vehicle and support it by the FRAME.
Review the spare tire and rear tires.
Lift the rear axle with a jack to take load off the springs.
Unbolt the springs and remove.
The front use captive nuts with tabs so they won't rotate. Just remove the bolts holding the spring plates to the axle then the eye bolts securing the spring to the frame and shackle.
