Default Rear tail light not working

My rear tail light on the drivers side isn't working. It blinks when I flip the signal lever, it works when I push the brake pedal, but if I just turn on the lights, nothing. I replaced the bulb, just to see if that would fix it, still nothing. All other lights are working. Have no idea what it could be. And ideas? Thanks in advance.

I forgot to add that it's an 2005 Dakota.

Check the socket contacts.

If the socket was bad, wouldn't that keep the light from working entirely? It's still working for signal and brakes.

Depends. Can’t hurt to eliminate the obvious.

I checked on the socket. The problem is the bulb does not fit into the socket tightly enough. I pushed on the bulb to make sure it was properly seated, and it came on. But when I reinserted the entire light assembly, then checked it again just to make sure, it wouldn't come on. But, if I give the thing a whack with my hand, it comes on. The bulb in it is a 3057. The bulb on the passenger side is a 3057K. Would that be the problem?

Swap the bulbs and see if the problem follows the bulb to rule that out.
