Default 2006 Dakota engine fit into the 2005

Greetings. I have a 2005 Dakota SLT with a 4.7 in it. Apparently the engine spun a rod, (I’m not a mechanic but it sounds serious) and mechanic said it’s best to swap out the engine vs rebuild/overhaul. My question is, can I put an engine from a 2006 Dakota into my 05. I’ve heard from a friend that yes because the 05-07 are the same series and the parts are interchangeable.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
