I think he is asking which transmission type are you asking will swap? The 05 came with a 4 speed 42RLE and a 5 speed 545RFE.

X would it be compatable with either of those? Sorry don't know much about vehicles. My Bros the michanic. I'm more the artist xP. I'm trying to figure out if I've found a compatable truck and transmission...

A 2005 Dakota Manual is paired with a Getrag 238 transmission.
A 2005 Dakota 3.7 Automatic is paired with a 42RLE transmission.
A 2005 Dakota 4.7 Automatic is paired with a 545RFE transmission.
If the transmission from the 2003 matches the truck transmission that you have now, then it is possible. I'm not sure if any electronics that control the trans had changed with the new models in 05, but first make sure you have a transmission that is an exact match. We do need details to give any possible assistance, so give as much detail as possible.
