Default Temperature issues

I have a coolant leak which I have suspicion to be from a head gasket blown or leaking. The truck runs fine and everything until I idle for around 5 min then the temperature light will come on and it will turn off when I start driving. Any ideas?

Could be a coolant leak. Have you noticed a regular drip or decrease in the amount of fluid in the reservoir? Do you have to keep filling it?

If not, I'd guess that you need a new radiator. The old one isn't getting air flow, probably because of corrosion and rust that are eating away the fins and blocking air flow around the existing fins.

Those two are where I'd start.

I’ve had too fill it up once a month ago it got low. I haven’t noticed it recently being low but when I idle I will puff burnt coolant out the tailpipe and you can also smell it when it’s been idling. Otherwise it doesn’t puff or burn it when I’m driving
