Default 08 4.7 4x4 exhaust options

Ok, after 220k miles, my original factory exhaust has developed some leaks. So it is time to get something new. I am thinking that if I am going to do this, I might as well do everything from headers to tips. I have a 2008 4.7 QC 4x4, and I like the stock side exit. I don't have a muffler shop capable of making headers locally. So, what are my options?

Headers really do nothing. Factory manifolds flow well. Biggest restriction is the factory "Y" pipe. Get a decent (magnaflow is my favorite) cat back and have a shop fab up a new Y pipe.

LOL dude, I probably should just email you my questions... Seriously though, one of my leaks is manifold to head, and my 220,000+ mile stock headers are rusted and god knows how or if they are coming off...and if I am going to take that off, I might as well put headers on if not for any performance gain, then just to be putting new parts on instead of old and busted...

Get some shorty ones then. They will bolt up to the factory down pipes. If you go true duals it’s gonna be expensive as you will need to add a second catalytic converter. And then I’m not sure there is room to mount another one.

No, I don't want duals, I want factory exit. So, shorty headers it is, any suggestions on brand?

Any name brand is good....finding ones for this truck is going to be the hard part.

Pretty sure they don't make any headers for the 08+ 4.7. The changed the heads completely and if you go look at pictures of the exhaust manifold gaskets they are different shapes with different holes between the earlier 287CI and later 285CI variants. Most manufacturers list the headers as being compatible only through 07.

You could in theory buy the old ones, cut the flange off, have a new one machined and weld the new flange to the old tubing but like jkeaton said: the factory ones flow fine.

See, my problem is that my factory ones are a rusted up mess, and leaking. Since I need to remove them to change the gaskets, and they are a rusted up mess, AND I have 224000 miles, it seems prudent to plan to swap them. In fact, I have my doubts that any part of my exhaust will be salvageable. I can't believe that I am the only person with an 08+ dakota that needs headers.....
