Default 4WD Issues

Driving to work yesterday pulled off the interstate to get some gas and as soon as I took the exit the SVC 4WD light on the dash came on. Stayed on for a few seconds and then went off. Got gas, back on the interstate and then briefly saw the 4LO light flash on for only about a second and flickered a few more times. Parked it at work and sat for about 8 hours. Left work and didnt notice anything unusal driving home. Pulled into my driveway and quickly noticed that the front wheels were engaged because when I went to turn into the driveway the wheels skidded on the dry pavement. No 4WD drive lights illuminated. Shifted into N and turned the 4WD dial to 4Lock and heard the motor in the transfer case shift. Turned dial to 4Lo and heard the motor shift again. Drove the truck around, seemed to be working fine in 4WD. Turned the **** back to 2WD, heard the motor shift but I couldnt really tell if it actually shifted out of 4Lock.

Parked it and got snow so I havent been able to look at it again yet. From what I read I am suspecting it could be the transfer case motor or the wiring leading to the transfer case motor, but I need to figure out if the switch is actually switching it out of 4WD to 2WD. Ill be able to check that by getting under the truck and trying to spin the front driveshaft.

First time I have ever had and issue like this. Truck has always babied and has about 140k miles. Transfer case and front diff fluid was changed last summer. Anyone else have something like this happen, any other tests I could do to see what might be happening? Thanks!

So I finally got around to installing the electronic shift motor on the transfer case. It solved the problem I was having with the truck not shifting out of 4WD despite the selector **** showing 2WD. I had to remove the front driveshaft and the yoke part near the transfer case. This yoke pulled off the output shaft and gave me enough room to replace the electric shift motor. One thing I noticed was when I pulled that yoke off I had some ATF fluid leak out from around that seal where the output shaft sticks out. Is this normal, or does that mean that seal needs to be replaced. I put the yoke back on the spline and tightened down the nut but I havent put the driveshaft back in. I have a feeling if I do its going to start leaking and I am going to have to tear it all back apart to replace the output shaft seal.

Thanks!
