Hello, I recently purchased an '08 Dodge Dakota Laramie. The previous owner put in a straight pipe exhaust system that sounds great, but unfortunately they cut out the cats and removed the O2 sensors. This has caused my check engine light to always be on. I'd like to have the cats and O2 sensors back in so I know when the check engine light turns on for any other issues. Does anyone have any recommendations for an exhaust system around the $600 range? I'm pretty new to this, so any details you can provide would be a great help. Thank you!

 

New cats, O2 sensors, and a full exhaust installed is going to cost plenty more than $600.

 

$600 is just for parts. I'm not concerned about labor costs. I've found several exhaust systems for under $1000, plus I'll be running to some junk yards to see what parts I can snag for cheap. What I am mostly looking for is some ideas of parts and where to buy.

 

Check Rockauto for the Cats, at least get part numbers and do a search. Get the Catalytic Converter information from the sticker under your hood, you'll probably need it.

Definitely get Mopar O2 sensors, going cheap with Bosch, Denso, or other aftermarket sensors will most likely give you error codes that will drive you nuts. Check Rockauto again, but I've ordered them from Amazon.

Exhaust system, you'll get a bunch of opinions.

I found a Mopar Performance Cat Back system made by Borla a while back, made from T304 Stainless Steel, (most systems are made from T409 Stainless Steel), which sounds amazing. That system will outlive my truck for sure, can't find it available anymore though.
