Default seat belt chime won't shut off...help!

My son has a 2006 Dodge Dakota quad cab. We recently purchased this vehicle. When the seat belt is clicked in the seat belt chime continues to go off. The warning light stays on as well. I checked the connections on the wiring from the seat belt through the connectors under the seat all were good. Then there is a single black wire (ground?) that runs from the connector under the drivers seat and goes under the carpet. I lightly tugged on this wire and out it came from under the carpet. Clearly this is the open wire I had been looking for that was breaking the circuit. The problem is that I have no clue where this wire goes. It is long enough to go under the carpet up to the dash. It has a splice on the end of it but I don't know the location of the wire it was spliced to. Does anyone know?

This may not be the help you're looking for but the seat belt reminder chime can be disabled. If you look in your owners manual there are details on how to disable it.

Crap after looking at the directions this may not work because of having to wait for the seat belt warning light to turn off and his is always displayed on the dash.

The seat belt reminder is a ground circuit. Normally open when unbuckled. One wire feeds to a ground lug near the left footwell. The other should lead to the instrument cluster.

Since it is a ground circuit you could ground each of the two seat belt switch wires separately and see if it triggers the light to go off. If it does then you know the cluster connection is good and you just need to fix the ground path. If not then you need to find the other end of that wire up near the cluster and splice it back.

Awesome, good place to start. If I can find where this wire goes the first thing I am going to do after it is reattached is disable the chime. I suspect that it goes to the instrument cluster because it is long enough. thanks. For the guys suggesting to disable the seat belt chime, I appreciate the suggestion.

Found it, The wire completed the ground and did not go to the cluster. Thanks everyone for the help.

I too have a similar issue with my seatbelt light not going off when buckled. No chime though which is a god send. After removing the seat and the buckle from said seat, there is no evidence of a wire of any sorts ever existing. After trying that whole chime removal process, my truck still recognizes that i have done it and will chime. How does this work and why does it also not work? Im so confused. Have pictures but website will not let me upload them from phone for some reason
