Default 5.7 Hemi Swap

I have a 2004 Dakota SLT with the 3.7
Im about to start my project to put in a 5.7 but to do it easier I have to use a 2003 to 2008 5.7 with a 2005 Ram computer.
I want to use the 8 speed (845RE) transmission but can't find any straight answers.
will the 845RE be able to work with a 2005ish 5.7 or do I absolutely have to use the 545RFE??
Thanks in Advance

If you want to use the 845, you'll have to use a PCM that came from a vehicle with it. The PCM has to be wired to see all the range switch choices and all the solenoids and switches and sensors on the 845, and there's got to be more of both compared to the 545. At least on the Dakota, the PCM runs the engine and transmission, so you'd need one that's compatible with both, the wiring harness, the Fusebox/TIPM and instrument cluster. There's a thread on here with a Hemi swap, but it's several years back and he most likely used a 545rfe.
