Can someone please tell me how many digits are viewable on a 2004 dakota mileage. About to buy another dakota. Seller says it has a little over 95,000 miles on it. However he says he is the third owner. I was looking at the milage and it looks to me like the spacing on it was the same on both sides. So if it had 195,000 miles on it would it show that? Or just the 95,000? Because I can't see him being the third owner with that low of miles on it.
. $5,000 is what he is asking for the truck. It's a V6 2wd.
I think I would be asking more then $5,000 for it if it has low miles on it. Straight body, custom rims, low profile tires. Clean interior. As I been seeing dakota's going for $3,500 to $6,000. That have over 200,000 miles on them.

 

I think it shows 6 digits, but I've never had a 2nd Gen Dakota. In your shoes, I'd get a Carfax report to verify its condition (as best as able) and follow the mileage via whatever registration and maintenance reports are on it.

 

You're not going to find a mass-produced car/truck made in the 2000s with an odometer that can still only show 5 digits.

I believe from prior threads that 1) If the gauge cluster is swapped out, the odometer reading shown is taken from whatever reading was stored in the replacement cluster, and 2) a dealer-level scan can confirm the reading stored in the PCM versus the cluster.
