Default Fan Clutch

Recently changed my radiator and most of the cooling sys. When shopping for a fan clutch all I found was "heavy duty", no OE replacement at the stores I use. So I took what they had at Auto Zone.

Anyway, getting a loud roar after extended stops with the A/C on. Thing sounds like a garbage truck when taking off. Had me worried the transmission was slipping at first.

Will this thing break in over time?

My old fan clutch bearing was pooched, only thing I could get was "HD Cooling"... think it was a Hayden... I cant remember.

Was pretty loud for the first 1000km or so. Slowly got a bit quieter, though I have noticed that it doesn't pull as much air on a hot day as the old one used to. I've heard that most guys have a 1 in 3 success ratio with fan clutches these days, so I just let that sleeping dog lie.

Pretty sure Quality Control hasn't been a thing in years.

I replaced mine a year or so ago with an aftermarket heavy duty cooling one. Same problem you are having, very loud like a dump truck. Sometimes it’s loud and sometimes not. Been wanting to find an OE one but haven’t really bothered changing it out. It’s annoying but I just live with it. Cools good though!

I've thought several times about switching to an electric fan, as I'm sure the mechanical fan contributes to the crappy mileage. That said, at 16 years and 210k miles, I haven't done it by now so I probably never will. ?

If you don't want the noise, get an OEM replacement. Order one at your dealer or order it online, they're available.

I replaced mine back in July, and no noise issue at all.
