Quick strut/leveling kit question
I have a 2005 Dakota 4x4. I am installing Monroe Quick struts and a pair of KSP Performance 2" leveling spacers. It appears to me when I install the spacers the strut studs will be 180 degrees out of orientation as the studs on the spacer cannot sit directly over the studs on the quick strut. The spacers will only install one way over the quick strut studs so that is easy to understand. Researching online has me confused.
1) Some say they attach the strut with the new spacer up top and twist the bottom of the strut to line it up to mount. Does not sound right at all.
2) Compress the spring and twist the top section of the strut the 180 needed. Sounds correct as it would keep the bottom part of the strut oriented as the OEM specs (such as the end of the spring up against the stop in the same place as OEM). Does it matter?
Could I just mount the spacer and put the strut in turned the 180 from where it would have mounted if no spacer had been added? Seems like the studs would line up fine doing this but I'm worried that changing the orientation of the spring may be a problem as I have read that the strut twists a little when in use and needs to be set in a certain orientation.
Please share any experience or expertise on this if you can. I am worried to just go with what I think might be alright. I don't have enough experience to trust myself on this. Thanks..........
