Next step is the Junkyard
2006 Dakota. I can crank it up and it will idle normally for 15-30 seconds, then shut off. I can tell it's a communication problem because the Instrument cluster holds the RPM and gear selection after shutting off, and doesn't change when I move the shifter. It will crank back up without a CEL and run normally, but it'll do it again if I leave it idling. It also happens when coming to a stop or slowing down to first gear then accelerating. I've trended all sorts of data with my "Blue Driver" and I've never seen any funky data from it, but it shuts down so suddenly, maybe its not capturing the cause? A few times I've had to pull off the road and restart it. So far I've been lucky that it stopped where I had room to pull off....,
I started by cleaning battery connections and cleaning all the ground connections. I also cleaned all the connectors to the ECM/TCM, FCM, Transmission, Instrument Cluster, and sensors, but no change
I then (in order) replaced the Ignition switch, TPS, IACV, Camshaft and Crankshaft position sensors, but no change.
Next, I replaced the fuse box and Front Control Module, but no change
Next, I sent the Instrument Cluster out for Refurb, but made no difference.
I haven't changed out the ECM/TCM yet. I've found 1 new one online but Dodge/Ram has changed hands 3 times since this truck was built and I'd be surprised if they could program it. I've also found used ones and companies that say they can re-program the VIN, but I believe the new/used replacement would have to have the same part number as my original, correct?
Suggestions?
Thx
