Default Aftermarket stereo won't turn off

I put A new stereo in my 3rd gen 2005 Dakota. I bought the unit (Pioneer) from Crutchfield along with the wiring harness they said I needed. Everything connects well and sounds great but the unit will not turn off. No matter where the key is turned the unit will not shut off. They are sending me a new interface module in case I received a bad one. Have any of you had a similar problem? Thanks

Nope, but crutchfield has excellent customer service. Keep working with them until they make it right.

If the harness draws switched power through the cigarette lighter circuit, you may need to change the position of a fuse. This fuse can be in either one of two positions, as shown and described:

I've had issues with mine since install. Every now and then doesn't kill with the key, just killed my battery last week. I've got a PAC interface, which one are you using? I probably need to pull it and see if it needs a reflash or update.

The interface is a "crux".

Did you try removing the key from the ignition? I had a new headunit ordered and prewired from crutch field for my 06 2500. and their module or whatever is involved enabled a new feature I didn't have with stock radio The head unit stays on until you remove the key from the ignition and open the door. If your door switch is broken this could allow the head unit to stay on also, do your dome lights work with the drivers door?

Both doors operate the dome lights. I did not check to see if the drivers dome works when the stereo is plugged in. I will double check that later today. I know the passenger side worked with the stereo connected as I was in and out of that side while working on the stereo.

When I connect the stereo to the truck, it is off. As soon as I turn the key on the stereo comes on. Won't turn off no matter where I turn the key or even remove the key.

Replying to erau's post...

I'm not sure where the harness is drawing power from but your point is well taken. Seems like something as simple as that might be my problem. I am waiting for the replacement crux interface to arrive. I will swap it in and then contact Critchfield tech support again if needed. I don't have much faith in the crux fixing this issue but tech said let's try it.

Somewhere in the info Critchfield sent me it says (in certain cases) you need to tap into the pink and gray striped wire coming out of the heater control. Connecting it to the red wire coming out of the rear of the stereo unit. I bought the harness Critchfield suggested and they make no mention of needing to do that. I did try doing so but it made no difference.

all stereos have 2 different power connectors. an always on and a key power.

sounds like they are flipped on your unit or in that adatper.

I did not know that. It sounds very feasible and not too hard to fix. I will try to research the wiring. Can the wires be pulled out of the harnesses plug? Thanks for the tip.
