Exhaust manifold leak common in the 4.7 engine?
On another note. I seem to be noticing that my engine has an exhaust leak coming from the manifolds. Is this common in the 4.7 V-8? My truck has 147K miles.
I saw online the Fel-Pro gaskets for them, but unsure if the manifolds themselves rust and "give-in". (Had that experience with a Ford Mustang a while ago, where I had to replace the entire manifolds rather than a gasket).
Thanks

It is very common for the exhaust manifold bolt to shear off on the number 7 exhaust port. I believe it is due to poor design. The catalytic converter bolts directly to the exhaust manifold without a flex pipe, therefore the weight is stressing the exhaust bolts causing them to shear off. I have replaced mine with a grade 10 bolt, after breaking several bolts the past. Since upgrading the bolt, I have not broken any more.

My exhaust manifold was cracked, and a few broken bolts were found when replacing it a couple of years ago. My engine has been silent ever since, used all new OEM replacement bolts.
I had the usual ticking sound before.
