Default G238 six speed to NV3500 five speed

Have a 05 Dakota 4.7l that came stock with the g238 six speed, as it sits the vehicle needs a trans and I'm sure its likely easier to keep it a manual than convert to auto. I'm looking for any information available on installing a nv3500 in place of the original getrag238. I got lots of experience working with Chevies and know more or less what will work with what there but not so much on the dodge Dakota front so any knowledge would help a ton thanks.

This is a common thing on 4x4 forums. Here is one about swapping the other way.

I'm not 100% sure if 2005+ is compatible with anything from earlier generations. I think manual might be okay, but recall something about a tone ring tooth count that made autos not swappable.
