Default "ABS" and "BRAKE" lights on solid?

So, I replaced the Brake Master Cylinder, Brake Booster and Brake Pedal Stop Switch, now these lights are on. I put the original switch back in and reset, did nothing. I know my vehicle is equipped with DRUM RR ANTI-LOCK BRAKES, 2 wheel ABS, and that is the description of the master cylinder I ordered and installed. Is this normal with a master cylinder swap in these and is there a remedy for this?

C2202 and C2206 are the DTS codes.

Do the lights come on right away? Or do they come on, go off, then come back on once the truck starts moving?

Just not a lot going on with the RWAL..... might be as simple as proportioning valve not being in quite the right place, some air in the brake lines, or something didn't get hooked back up....

They come on immediately and stay on...

The only thing there would be to be "hooked back up" would be the electrical plugs of the master cylinder and brake switch, I've checked both.

Should be a dump valve further down the lines as well..... Just an aluminum block with a couple solenoids on it.

I begin to suspect the prop valve is out of place though. If you pump the brakes HARD, will the lights go off?

I might be tempted to grab another warm body, sit them in the drivers seat, have them pump up the brakes, and HOLD them, while you crack open a bleeder valve. Start with the rear, make sure there is no air, do it a couple times, see if the lights go off. If not, go to the front, do the same thing...... See what happens. If neither work, gonna need a scanner that can talk to the ABS, and see what it's whining about.

Abs and park brake lights on the dash mean the brake fluid sensor is reading low. This is a common issue with replacement parts as the resistor used in non oem sensors is the wrong value and always shows a low reading. Replace the new one that came with the reservoir on the master cylinder with the old one and the issue will go away.

As for the codes, those are:

C2202 - Original vin mismatch/missing
Could be pcm or abs
C2206 - vehicle configuration mismatch
Could be abs

This suggests that the abs module has been replaced and not flashed with the proper vin. Test if the abs works, if it does, I wouldn't worry about it.

Wouldn't those codes also indicate 4WAL though....... I didn't think RWAL cared about such things.

The fsm only references the RWAL and on 5-243 says "NOTE: If the ABM is being replaced with a new ABM it must be reprogrammed with the use of a scantool."

To the best of my knowledge the 4WAL was only available on the 2008+ and is functionally identical with an extra brake line coming from the HCU.

Welcome to the party Hessel,

The master cylinder i used is an OEM from another Dakota of the same year and set up, 2 wheel ABS. The brakes feel great...not spungy, doesn't sink and plenty of pedal. The pedal switch however was an O'Reilly's part.
