Default Reverse lights haunted

Hey folks,

2008 dakota sxt rwd extended cab.

Noticed the other day the reverse lights weren't working.
ok, no biggie, got some new bulbs and were good.
Until few days ago. Passenger side doesn't work.
Hmmm. Switched bulbs driver to passenger and vice versa

Wasn't that, coz the bulb did the same thing.

Switched out the sockets, and then i lost both lights. Neither one works.

Not the fuse, it was fine, and i switched it out anyway.

So, not im thinking grounds?

I had to leave when i was trouble shooting this, did t have time to roll around in the dirt.
but my next bet is the ground.

Where are these grounded? Underneath somewhere.

I should mention theres an old weathered trailer hitch harness that looks tired. Leading up to a brake light on the box cap, but why would that mess with reverse lights.

Im open to suggestions.
I don't think its the neutral safety switch coz the lights were working momentarily..

it's not entirely the end of the world but sure would be nice to have when im in a parking lot or something...

cheers guys n gals
