Default 2005 Dodge Dakota SLT P0218 P0934

Hello everyone, I’m 21 and I bought a 05 Dakota with 230k KMs a couple months ago and let me start off by saying I do love this thing dearly and want to do all I can to fix this.

My dad is a very experienced mechanic but I insisted I’d try to fix this on my own as much as I can as to not bother him from his other work.

I have had the following reoccurring codes with the red light indicating high trans temp operation. I monitor it with the scanner and the temperature will spike from normal operating temps to well over 300C almost abnormally high.

- P0218 transmission high temperature operation stored
- P0934 line pressure sensor circuit low

Allow me to list the current step of my diagnosis and fix

- Pan drop, filter change (both spin on and box filter) and refilled with ATF+4 ONLY I actually did two pan drops in a span of 20km it was a procedure recommended on my dads solis scanner.

- I replaced the transmission pressure sensor on the passenger side of the transmission, it was previously replaced with a STANDARD MOTOR sensor and I hate those I know they are terrible sensors I used to work at a parts store and those were the ones we got back the most due to defectives

- I suspected a short in the ground for the Pressure sensor AND Temp sensor and they are SHARED, so I ran a seperate ground for those two sensors just to at least eliminate that factor

- quick clutch learn for the transmission once changing the sensor

- the previous owner showed me a bill for a replaced solenoid, and judging on the price of the bill it was for sure the whole pack assembly past the valve body, now the only reason I didn’t replace it is that it’s my last solution due to budget restrictions and the fact that it was already done before but I never seem to trust that

SIDE NOTE, the transmission has the shudder that happens at 70kmh (40mph) in 4th gear under low rpm torque load, this might be related to my issues perhaps?

I hope this forum could reach out to me and give me some helping hands. I read up on some other forums and I saw someone mentioning transmission cooler lines being clogged and I’m trying that tomorrow.

Welcome to the forum.

The first thing, what engine does your truck have? That will tell us which transmission is paired with it.

Is it 4x4 or not? That changes the driveline depending on the transmission, which could result in other things to look at for a solution.

If you have a carrier bearing on a two piece driveshaft, check it for play. The shuddering I had on my truck was from that. Under low rpm torque is would start whipping around causing vibration.

Try different scanners when checking temps. I know in the 08+ years there is an integer underflow issue with bullydog programmers that results in incorrect readings in cold weather. My favorite reading was 5400°C in -25 weather.
