ok, so i think im going to black out my headlights. I dont know if anyone here has done it with an 05-06, but i was looking at them yesterday and i think i can do it without maximum problems. If there is not a DIY up, i will post it up myself, but basically it insists of taking out the headlights, baking them in the oven (to loosen up the glue holding them together) opening the headlights, spray painting the headlights, and then putting them back together, baking them again (to melt the glue back together) and putting them back in the truck


i think the hardest part will be taking them out of the truck and putting them back in


also, this isnt a hour long process, but usually takes the better part of the day because you have to let the paint dry (and depending on the number of coats you put on them.



we did it withe my buddies wrx about 1 year ago, and he is gonna help me do mine today (if i decide to do it)

Your friends car came out real nice,how dose it look close up?Did you guy's paint the inside of the lens,I would imagine paint on the out side would pit up quickly.
What did you use to get those shapes,a hand cut mask or a templet?

no, those are the stock headlights, only thing we did was remove all those orange plastic things and paint the chrome on the inside of the headlight, lemme P-chop my headlights and show you a before and after...if i can do it

I know what he's talking about doing
I had 3 Ford Focus's before and many people on the Focus forums had done that before.

But yeah you just remove the headlight assembly off the truck & then heat up the whole headlight assembly (after the bulbs/wires are removed) in the oven for a little bit to melt the glue that attaches the clear lens to the rest of the headlight assembly. And then this lets you separate the lens from the headlight assembly.

Then you just paint the chrome part of the headlight whatever color you want...like body color or in your case, black. You don't have to mask anything off since everything will be removed from the headlight already (i.e. lens & bulbs).

It'll look cool, but you might still have the amber reflector on the inside of the headlight unless it's removable or something (you'll have to see when you open up the headlight).

*Only bad part about doing this is that if you don't seal the lens back on correctly then you're gonna have problems with moisture/condensation in the headlight.*

But yeah good idea....can't wait to see how it turns out!

Also....if you do paint the headlights black......get the painted grille & painted front bumper that is on the Sport & R/T models....that'd look sweet!

Basically....get rid of the SLT/chrome front end & black out the front...that'd look REALLY nice!!!

The "R/T hood" is a stock hood with a fake scoop

So all you need is the fake scoop & it sticks right on

 

if any thing that fake scoop is gonna be the same one they put on the rumble bee. will have to wait and see though.[sm=confused06.gif]
