Default Anyone thinking about changing their gears?

Alright, so I got an '05 Dakota Quad V-8 4x2
It's got the stock 3.55 gears open end (no LSD) & 9.25 axle

SO.....I'm thinking about swapping the gears.....3.92 or 4.10....undecided yet.

And if I'm gonna change the gears, then might as well get an LSD while I'm at it (around $200) since they'll (whatever shop) have to take out the differential to change the gears anyways. No extra labor charge to put in the LSD is what they told me.

So I've been searching through tons of old post on dodgedakotas.com & dakotausa.com.
Seems 4.10 gears give a little extra gas mileage with the 4.7.

Just wondering if anyone else was thinking about doing this or if they've done it??
If you have done it....where'd you get the parts from??

I called Randy's....very nice guy that I talked to, but their prices were high.

I just ordered some new Motive Gears off ebay (4.10) for $188 SHIPPED

Randy's wanted $205 SHIPPED for a set of "Value-Gears".....price went to $245 & $265 for Yukon & US Gears.

Now I gotta find me a stock/OEM LSD/Anti-Spin for some traction

From my local Dodge dealer.....they told me for the 8.25 axle...only $125 for the LSD....I thought that was a steal!!!

Then I found out I had the 9.25 axle ......then the price went to $450 (for the LSD)!!!
So now I gotta find me a LSD still

I hate to tell you but going to the 4:10 gears will lower your fuel miles due to the fact that your rpms go up.
I have the 3:92 with the 4.7L it sucks fuel. 13 mpg 80% of it hi way!
You will have a great towing machine with the 4:10 ratio.

Hmm....

I searched a ton of old posts and people said that with the 4.7 & 4.10 gears.....they actually got better mileage with their Dakota

My RPM's are only at 2,000 when I do 70mph on the freeway, with 3.55 gears

GemmySam said that with his 3.92 gears he is only at 2,100-2,200 RPM at 70mph.

So I think the RPM's will only be at 2,300-2,350 doing 70mph.....with the 4.10 gears & stock tires still.

I understand that with the higher gear you're "supposed to" get worse mileage....I'm not saying I'm definitely gonna get better mileage, but the people who said they got better mileage was because the gears do the work in the city driving. Cuz right now I have to give it a good amount of gas to get the truck moving.....so theoretically, you wouldn't have to use as much gas to take off from light to light in city driving because of the lower gear ratio.
But yeah if I was doing 80mph down the freeway all the time.....overall, yes, the mileage would be worse than what I'm getting

But guess I won't find out until I get them put in
