Default 2006 Dakota Muffler ?

I have a 2006 Dakota laramie 4.7 Magnum. Id like to swap out just the muffler (save a little money over a catback i guess) Few questions. Is there a simple remove/bolt in muffler around? Also will it void the warranty?

Void the warranty....no

ONLY if it caused a problem (which most likely would NEVER happen), then the dealer would have to prove that the muffler caused the problem. Again.....a muffler wouldn't ever cause a problem though.

As for a direct replacement....no such thing.
The factory mufflers are soooo large. You'd have to get like a Flowmaster or something and then have a muffler shop weld it in with a little extra pipe.
Changing the muffler will just change the tone a little.

I'm gonna get the Magnaflow system for my truck. $390 after tax & shipping....all stainless steel cat-back.

Or you can get a Gibson cat-back (aluminized) for $309 on ebay.

But definitely go with a cat-back if you're looking for sound AND performance gains (12-15hp).

PLUS with a cat-back.....

It's something that you could install in your driveway.
Unbolt the stock system and then bolt on the new system.....no welding involved.

Yup!

That's what Magnaflow claims....there's is a 3-inch stainless cat-back system....not too loud either, but a nice tone

i was posting in another post about a muffler shop in town that will put a flowmater in and the pipe with a tip for $280. (catback) not sure if the magnaflow is the same price or not. Im sure its not stainless but i forgot to ask.

is the stock exhaust stainless?

Were you going to Midas, Mienke, or the like? That sounds like the quotes they gave me. I ended up at a small shop that quoted $168 and the one I went w/that was $127 out the door. That was for SSO 3" from the cat back and a Flowmaster 40 with no tip. Just couldn't justify the $35 for the chrome tip. The small shops can do it cheaper as it's only a couple folks and they have very little overhead like the big boy's do. Go with the 40 if you do a Flowmaster. Not overly loud and they sound good.
Good look.

Just gotta talk to the people

Act like you know what you're talking about (even if you don't) or else they'll just try and rip you off

Tell them that so & so up the street will do it for $180.....will you do it for $150 or 160???...kind of thing
Just gotta bargain with them, and have them match/beat the other guys prices
Custom exhaust like that is all labor (& some materials)....so there is no set price.

But definitely have a good shop do it, because I've paid for cheap labor before but they did cheap (crappy) work.

Posted in the other forum you have, but you can buy a Flowmaster cat-back system now.....

So I'd just go that route if I were you
