Default 2006 4.7L engine noise

This one is hard to describe.....

My motor makes a light rattle/clicking noise when i'm on the throttle, and it goes away when the truck start coasting. It is more evident at highway speeds.
It only starts doing it after maybe 10 minutes of driving, but it won't go away! Is that what the engine is supposed to sound like?

The performace is great, i'm almost 100% sure it isnt spark knock, and i don't think it sounds like valve clicking.
I just picked the truck up a week ago, its only got 350 miles on it....maybe it'll wear in.

I ordered it in late december, and it came off the line around 3/15/06. If anyone has a 6 speed 4.7L SLT that came off the line around then lemme know if you're experiencing something similiar.

Nope, I have the same engine and transmission as you... Never had this issue before. I have had mine for about 3.5 weeks, and have 805 miles on it. Notta problem yet.

I have the 06 QC SLT 4x4 4.7L but with the auto trany and a little over 1,300 miles without any indication of noise similar to yours. I have been using mine for both towing as well as curvey mountain driving for several hours at a time so if it was gonna do it, I would think it would show up by now.

My Dak was custom configured and ordered in Oct 05 with delivery at the end of Dec 05. My dealer told me that if I had any concerns whatsoever, to stop by and let them check it. So far - no complaints nor concerns. Love driving it.

Time to take it back to the dealer and have it checked out.

I misdiagnosed the problem...it only has that little rattle in 6th gear.

Definitely not engine. Plus I have a hard time believing a dealer would even recognize the problem, if it is even something wrong.

From the service manual:
TRANSMISSION NOISE
Most manual transmissions make some noise during normal operation. Rotating gears generate a mild whine that is
audible, but generally only at extreme speeds.
Severe, highly audible transmission noise is generally the initial indicator of a lubricant problem. Insufficient,
improper or contaminated lubricant will promote rapid wear of gears, synchronizer rings, shift rails, forks and bearings.
The overheating caused by a lubricant problem, can also lead to gear and bearing damage.

The funny/strange thing is that it only makes the noise in 6th. If i drop it down to 5th it'll go away.

I did notice a little extra vibration on the pedal in 6th gear. But that was the same with the 99 durango i drove when it was in overdrive.

I'm in love with the truck otherwise, it has awesome power and really fun to drive. I'm just that kinda person who can't ignore something like this

My 05 4.7 HO 4x4 auto doesn't have the noise you're describing but it's a much different setup.

It might be something that the dealer won't recognize, but if it bothers you I'd take it in...

I might be nothing like a heat shield or something but you never know.

If they say it's nothing at least you have some documentation about your consern...

They may even know of a problem and the only way you'll know is if you take it in.

Good luck, I hope it works out.

dealers tend to go with the "if it aint broke dont try to fix it" guidelines. I wouldnt worry about it unless it caused some problem.

IF IT'S UNDER WARRANTY TURN UP THE RADIO! MY MOTTO HAS BEEN LET THEM FIX A KNOWN PROBLEM. THE LESS THEY MESS WITH THE VEHICLE THE BETTER OFF WE ARE SOMETIMES AS THEY GUESS THEIR WAY INTO MAKING US HAPPY. NO SERVICE WORK IS AS GOOD AS IT COMES FROM THE FACTORY.
