Default Dak in hot pursuit

So today i was traveling along one of the busy roads here in town and this ******* in a civic and fart cannon pulls out of a side street and clips this guy on a bike. I say ******* cause the bastard without even thinking peeled out and took off. I pull off on a side street (im in front of him) to call the cops, and the guy turns behind me. I think hes trying to turns around and go see if the guy is ohkay. I watch him go up to the stop sign a block up and he starts going the direction back to the scene, but then starts going the other way. I 'm thinking oh **** hes running, so i peel the dak out after him, and once he hears this he takes off. After a mile of weaving through sidestreets going about 50-60 and neighborhoods while talking to the police trying to catch up close enough to this guy to read his plate, i give up as talking to the police, focusing on neighborhood, and keeping the dak going is tough, i turn around to go check on the guy on the bike, its just a homeless crazy dood that wants no help anyways. Amazing thing was Tucson 911 was awesome....they put me through to dispatch who put me through to a cop directly and even were asking if i could keep up with him and is he running lights and stuff. And what really impressed me was the daks performance, going around turns, picking back up the throttle, it kept up with the punk surprizingly well, unfortunately he got away, although i pulled off on a side street and there was this punk kid walking away from a car that looked a LOT like the one i was following. i asked him if he saw anything and he said no...[&o]

Kudos to you, Drakkon, for trying to do the right thing. You are the MAN! Too bad this jerk wasn't nailed.

He will be eventually though. Good job on the pursuit. How was the guy that got clipped? Were you able to go back and help him?

Wait...So let me get this straight, you were doing 50-60 MPH in a neighborhood chasing after someone while talking on a cell phone? Not too smart IMO. All I can think of is some child running out into the street and getting mowed over by 2 cars. On top of that your truck gives no indication to any pedestrian or motorist that your chasing someone at high speed! Not worth it man, not worth it. I would have called the police, checked on the injured and gave them a description of the car.

Yeah, not too smart racing through neighborhoods in a pick up. Doesn't anyone else think that the first thing to do would be check on the injured as opposed to causing a high speed pursuit through neighborhoods?? If he hadn't chased him the guy would not have been driving so fast, and what exactly was accomplished? I'm surprised everyone is praising this message...

Well put dakotaquadsport and pcheyne. Hard to believe a 911 dispatcher or officer would actually encourage chasing. Not sure why they didn't say pull over, stop, or back off immediately.

Some food for thought, I once read about a guy who was hit by another vehicle...just a fender bender and it wasn't his fault. The at fault vehicle left the scene and the guy tried to chase him, made a call to 911 and the dispatcher told him to pull over and stop immediately. He didn't. Driver of the at fault vehicle crossed a center line and struck another vehicle, killing both himself and the driver of the car he hit. Who do you suppose went down for two counts of vehicular manslaughter? You guessed it...the guy who was doing the chasing just like Drakkon was.

I commend the notion of getting involved but you probably went about it the wrong way.

If one tire of the Civic doesn't kill the kid, the second definately will. So you've already got a dead kid, thus the dakota going over him isn't going to matter much. [8D]

I dunno how to explain it, the situation presented itself, I reacted. Yes it was dumb, yes it was dangerous, yes it was risky. Frankly I'm rather glad i reacted though to at least try and do something than just let the guy get away. People stopped for the guy on the bike so i knew he was being attended to. I knew the risk of what i was doing, and backed off when it did become too much to handle.
In this town this happens all too often. A couple months back a 8 yr old kid was killed crossing the street, to this day the police dont have a good description of the car even though it was at rush hour in the morning along one of the busiest streets in town. Even last week I was walking from my apt to the store and a guy bumped me coming out of a driveway, he didnt even roll down his window to make sure i was okay.
