They have to prove what you did caused the problem. If not, they must fix it, under warranty, assuming you are still in warranty.

if there are any problems in your axel or driveshaft they can try and attribute it to changed grears.
Possibly problems with transmission they can try to attribute them to the gears being changed out.
Like Frenchy said, its just about the burden of proof down the line, did the gears cause the problem or was it an underlying malfunction of OEM parts. If they can somehow prove that your gears caused the malfunction than you are SOL.

Lawyers can prove or disprove just about anything. I would say err on the conservative side. Changing your gears could void the 7 year warranty on the entire drivetrain really. For example, an exhaust system won't put any more stress on an engine; it'd be hard to prove that it cracked a head or ruined the timing. However, new gears could be interpreted as having put more strain on the drivetrain than was intended by Dodge.

Even if changing gears voids any factory warranty, wouldn't the new gears that you changed to come with a warranty of their own? SinceOne if you're thinking about changing gears, I would make sure any shop who installs new ones makes a guarantee of some sort.

My opinion, however little it's worth, is that Dodge could easily use that mod to get out of their warranty obligations on the drivetrain and there isn't much of a way to replace a voided warranty; it's a nice safety net.
