2006 Dodge Dakota -- Tranny Died -- 2k miles
So I just bought this truck 6 weeks ago and the frickin (trying hard not to curse) transmission dies on me today. Factory defect? I think so. I am 25 years old and this is the first car/truck I am paying for myself; needless to say I have been babying this thing. I did purchase the extended warrenty from Fidelity (Platinum Warrenty, the best). The dealership doesn't know if they are going to put in a new transmission or a rebuilt (with new parts) transmission. I have had a rebuilt transmission in my old car (10 years old) and it is never the same; I had to rebuild it a second time. Being it is a new car and not even 2 months hold, I demanded a NEW transmission. They said it is not my decission. What gives? Any suggestions? How should I handle this? Any known transmission issues?
Thank You,
Chris

Read over your warranty documents carefully. It's possible they have the right to replace with a rebuilt with new parts. If that is the case, be absolutely sure that your existing warranty covers the replacement trans. And get it in writing.
first of all, why buy the fidelity plan. our trucks come with the 7 year 70000 mile warrenty from the factory. most of the time its not the tranny, but an electrical glitch. either way dodge should replace it with a new one not rebuilt. check with other dealers in your area. you dont have to go back to the same dealer you bought truck from to honor warrenty
SuperDak05, if he bought a 2006 dakota, they no longer have the 7/70 power train coverage, its now back to 3/36. I cant believe they would lower there warranty coverage, but they did...which is NUTS. The 05's however have the 7/70. One thing about Dodge man, there auto tranny's are some of the least reliable tranny's out there. I got a stick for this purpose. If you've been around these dodge trucks for a while, thats just common knowledge you know lol.
A new tranny should be an order, also, be aware a 2005 (if yours is not an 06) dakota has a recall on the auto tranny.

Sorry too hear about your tranny. If it in fact the tranny is shot I would tell them you paid for new and want new in its place. I call BS on a rebuilt one. Considering what we paid for these trucks.
Isn't that tranny recall only on the trucks with the 3.7 as they use a different one from the 4.7's?

i did not know they did away with the 7/70. my tranny seems fine. have no trouble with shifting or lock up. and it still launches hard. but i will check into that recall, thanks
If they find a defect, you may be covered under yours state's lemon law. I would read over that document as well as the warranty. Best of luck to you!
