Default 63 or 57 Series K&N CAI

I plan to purchase one of these soon, but I can not tell from K&N's website much difference between these series. Do you guys and gals (sexybrenty?) have a preference to either one?

thx

When I was looking to purchase a CAI I read the metal/chrome ones look nice but pick up more engine heat than the plastic ones unless you insulate them and if you did that what would be the point of a nice looking chrome tube.

go with the 63 series. a much better fit and more horsepower than the 57. also if you want to relocate your iat sensor it is easier drilling out the 63 series than the metal on the 57 series.

The 57 Series has CARB (California Air Resources Board) approval. Some states follow CARB standards and if they inspect vehicles, they will want to see the CARB Exempt number. The 63 Series may not be street legal in some states and is not CARB certified.

The 77 Series is the metal one.

I have the 77 Series(metal/chrome) in my'05 Dak, it fit perfect and had no problem drilling it out just past the heat shield for the iat relocate. A side note on the relocate: I got a reply back from K&N tech support on the relocate issue which was "do not recommend, may affect driveability" whatever that means. Anyhow, having researched the relocate thing extensively, I went and did it anyway and have not experienced any problems, period, end of story. A bit more pep, as a matter of fact. I believe the reason they do not recommend doing it as that somebody might screw it up, thus resulting in "driveability" problems.

I say the plastic one if it is legal in your state. The plastic as mentioned above will pick up less engine heat. Mine stays only warm to the touch, the metal one with get real hot. I had the 77 series on my saturn VUE and that baby got hot....
