Default Dakota 4.7 HO Owners

Just curious---

How do you like the power/performance of your dakota??? Are you satisfied??? I have read on here some posts where people complain that it feels doggy and constantly downshifts on minor inclines and hills....even where as to it cannot chirp the tires. Then there are the posts that state how much power it has and etc. I have read reviews where they bash the dakota's power for a V8, and reviews that praise it. How satisfied are you with YOURS??????

(I test drove a new Dakota QC 4x4 with the 4.7 H.O.) and couldnt tell if it had ***** or not due to car salesman rideing shotgun.

I have a SLT 4X2 with the HO. This is my first V8 in years, so to me it's powerful (when compared to say my 98 Intrepid's 2.7L). Fairly nice throaty sound through the stock exhaust, although I am getting a Flo 40 dual out installed next week (finally!) I have to admit I still haven't punched it to the floor from a standstill - well alone attempt a brake burn, so not sure of the tire-burning potential. The 255/65 tires are fat and grip well however as well as the LSD that the HO's have in the rear. Turning right or left out of parking lots etc it's real easy to chirp the tires. I do not usually run 91 or 03 octane since I never felt any diff when I use 87, so I don't see the need. Feels strong as it is.

Needless to say, I love the truck and the engine. Gonna love it more when it sings (screams) with the flowmaster!

I like my 06 non H.O. It will light up both back tires pretty easy.

I have an 05, with a non-ho V8, and that thing can tear up the road, and with the Flowmaster 40 on it it sounds dern sexy. Though I'm trying to get some people who want to put some money back for a couple years, then all of us just go crazy, get a HEMI installed with stainless headers to dual Flow 40's and go on a 3 month tour eating imports!! muuahahaha! *cough* anyways...the HO I think just runs at higher RPMs so it produces a more race-inspired tuning to it.

I’m not impressed at all with the lack of power. However, from my post you also know it isn’t running correctly anyway. It goes in for a factory evaluation next week. Thought I have read posts that seem to be to the extreme both ways most of the time I have too believe that there are some motors that are what we use to call freaks and others that are either average and badly built dogs. The freaks are the lucky ones. They seem to scream, as the others can’t.
My 95 Dak 5.2 was a freak and that thing would blow off most cars in its stock form with tools in the back.

I got agree with graythang I am unimpressed with my 06 QC HO I musta got a dog could'nt light the tires up if a train was coming up my ***, had a cold air intake on, took it off seems to run better without it ??? gas mileage is beyond sucking other than that love the ride, looks, handeling. guess when the warranty is up I'll drop a hemi in and make it run like a HO should run and not a 6 cyl.

I don't have any issues with my HO. I love the power, and have not had any issues accessing it with the auto-trans. It's a truck - the mileage sucks and I knew that going into the purchase. If I wanted more mpg I would have bought a crossover or a car. I have two friends who bought new Tacoma's with the 4.0 v6 - they are only getting 1 more mpg than I am. Never had trouble lighting the tires.
