Default Interior sound mod

In an attempt to bring down some of the Flowmaster drone/incroaching sound into the cab while the windows are up, today I removed the rear seat upper backs, the rear "carpet" stuff on the back wall and duct-taped over the vents on the back cab. Prior to doing this I could hear exhaust sound coming in from those vents, so I taped them up and it certainly sounds somewhat less. Drone still there (that's what these mufflers will do for many of us), but it did lessen it. I left alittle space on the sides of the vent so they'd still vent some. I don't think they'll really be any negative effects from doing this. I am sure air will still circulate enough (right?).

ps...Here's a POST, instead of me just READING (see other thread about this)...lol

why dont you just put some of that sound barrier stuff (I forget the name of it) on the inside of the cab to reduce the noise.

Just to preface this that I am not ragging on ya dude. Just pointing out a few things. For sure not a good idea. You need positive cab ventilation. The better idea would have been to understand you would get that interior resonance before you altered the exhaust. I'm assuming you removed the front resonator. That is where the resonance is coming from. Kind of surprised the exhaust man didn't mention/point out that fact. I personally like that throaty sound. You could reduce the resonance by either: re-installing the front resonator, have dual side out with an "X" pipe put in under the cab(don't know how or why it works but that is what I've been told), or have the underside of the truck Rhino-lined or similiar product to sound deaden the truck. Hang tight another week or so and you'll get used to it.
Good luck[sm=americanasmiley.gif]

dynomat is what it is called. used for sound systems to stop rattling by the vibrations transfered from low frequency sounds. as far as taping the vents shut, bad idea. the funny thing is that you are taping the vents shut for better sound when you have the windows up. that is the time when the vents are needed the most. take the tape off of your vents. man up, take your skirt off and lets end this tea party.

Don't get me wrong, I love the throaty sound. It's the best sounding vehicle I've ever owned. It's the humming/resonance at 1700-2100 rpms I'm trying to cut down. That's all.

Maybe this weekend I'll take off my f'n skirt and take the tape off! Not a sizeable noise difference anyways.

BTW, the HO didn't have the second fwd resonator in the first place.

ok listen...u can dynomat...or you can tell your muffler you dont care...you found a new friend. i call them 10" subs by rockford fosgate/MTX. either of those are good in trucks. get ur self a custom box for ur back seats...install...out-do the droning with some tunes.
i just looked for the first time today and there is a decent gap behind the back seats (quad cab). i know a box builder so its probly less complicated/expensive for me then most. and then theres always those who dont want subs... but just an idea
