Default Remote Start

Hey Folks,

Regarding my 2005 4.7L QC 4X4 DAK , I am in the market for a remote starter. I do not have an alarm, just the factory keyless entry. I need help finding a reasonably priced remote starter online. An alarm with remote start would be awsome. I need to know what additional equip I will need. More importantly, what extra crap they might try to sell me that I do not need.

Thanks, and remember, be nice.

Clifford, Codealarm, Audiovox Prestige (not the Walmart type stuff, this is stuff only sold thorugh audio shops last I heard).

Generally depending on what comes in the kit, they might need to add relays, starter kill usually is an addon.

I would say think around $300 installed depending on your area and what kind you buy.

yah he nipped that in the bud for you....i woulda said 300 dollars too...and get an alarm with it...but dont let them sell you a crazy super alarm that reaches 5 miles and has an led picture screen display for your key and sings you songs and flashes lights at you yadda yadda (exaggerating) just keep it simple but get a quality brand (mentioned above)

My two cents - I recently lost my Dakota key, the key with the door lock buttons and panic button..... it sucked, to say the least, as it was the only key I had. A locksmith came by and actually was able to make a key from my ignition, and the key did not have a chip in it.
Dodge wanted to sell me a key with the chip in it, and programmed, for about $200.
SO - you need to find out if your truck actually has the chip reader in the ignition or not, b/c the remote start might require that chip. Just have a simple metal duplicate key made and see if it starts your truck. This will avoid any extra expenses when purchasing your remote start unit.

IF YOU GO TO BEST BUY AND DO LIKE THE $380 ALARM AND REMOTE START THEY SAY IT IS AROUND 300 TO INSTALL BECAUSE ALL THE RELLAYS YOU NEED AND EXTRA PARTS NEEDED. BECAUSE I WAS IN THE MARKET BUT IF YOU GET THE 250 ONE FROM DODGE AND HAVE THEM INSTALL IT, IT WILL BE AOURND 200 TO INSTALL AND IT ALL IS REDICULAS BECAUSE DODGE HAD TO WIRE EVERYTHING UP FUNNY.

One reason I wouldnt have Best Buy install anything, way overpriced. Local stereo shops are better. And with a remote start/alarm there shouldnt be more than 3-4 relays (most of which should be in the kit) unless you get the ones what open and close windows and sunroofs options.

BTW Hawk, cap lock key is stuck.

Not necasarily (SP) true these newer veichles(especially Chryslers) are getting much more technical to put remote starts in and the 05-06 Daks need an xtra 3 relays(dependent on start brand) to make them start properly without throwing any warning light, making sure all accessory stuff turns on,and dont throw the dash lights into a christmas tree.

i had a clifford on my ram, it paged me when the alarm went off and told me what caused it to go off....it was real nice. it also had remote start, but i didnt set it up for remote start, when i baught it, it had one of those kits on it to where u had to turn the blinker on before u turn the key, or it will play dead, and i didnt want to lose that capability, bc i liked it...real sweet set up though...a few years ago that was a little over 450 i believe
