Default off roading - embarassing

yeah the other day my friend who has a brand new Ram TRX4 and I went on out to a place called Lancaster in California to go off roading and got to kick up some dirt. Me only having 2WD was able to go up hills but sometimes ended up going up kind of sideways haha, did make it! I got stuck and my friend had to tow me out...ugh, sucks not having 4WD, because I did NOT think about that when I bought the truck in the first palce -_-. Oh well, my next truck is gonna be a 2500 with the Cummins 4x4 so by then I should have a trailer to haul with it. Pics are below at the link!

Jimbo

Do you think you could have made it through if you had more aggresive tread tires? I also went with the 4x2, but I am looking at upgrading to some trail tires, nothing very aggresive, but not stock either. Just wanted to see what you thought about it.

Thanks

yeah I am planning on doing the same, I have the Good Year Eagle tires which aren't A/T. After seeing what Monkeywrench did on his Dakota I am definitely thinking about doing the same thing to mine, but going with the BFGoodrich A/T tires, they have really good beefy tread on them but are also good to ride on the road with, so I might go with those..at $167/tire I think it's pretty affordable, and I like my rims so I don't want new ones of those unless I HAVE TO.

right runner, that's awesome you used to live in palmdale, yeah the trail we went on was actually at the end of a road named Avenue K, I think they go all the way from Avenue P on down to Avenue A as you go further north. Anywho all the way west on Ave. K will get you to the middle of the hills on COMPLETE dirt. there aren't paved roads for quite qa few miles, and all the trails are perfect to go off roading on for free, public land, don't have to pay or anything haha

Thanks for the info. I am going to raise the front 3in and the back 1in (to get it all level) before moving to the new tires. Monkeywrench says that he isn't having any rub problems, but in the pic it sure does look close. I don't want to risk putting 300lbs in the back and then start rubbing brand new tires! IMO I think it will look better just slightly raised like that. It will help to justify putting my side steps on rather than just for my son to get in and out of the truck easier. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your front light lens covers?? Awesome looking! I am blacking everything out on mine. I'm staying with the stock gray rims and going to black them out. I'm looking into getting the chrome part of the hood nose blacked out as well.

Thanks again!

Next time go with some weight in the back. You could use sandbags or blocks. Or, for a more professional approach you could buy a "sure grip mat" its a heavy mat that lays in to fit the size of your truck bed to gain traction in snow and rain. Advance auto has them I Think.

yeah...i've seen those traction things before...i may want the cheaper approach with sand bags :P....doing 3inch in the front and 1inch in the back sounds like a great idea to level things out...it'd look so much nicer.

relly? cuz i was thinking about keeping the nose down a little....do a 3 inch raise in the back and a 2 inch in the front.... help with air flow...look a little race-ish...
how 'unlevel' are our daks exactly?

I know when i look at my dak from across the street the front is a coupld inches below the back...but I like the look of the level truck...I'm not too into the street race look or yeah I would keep the front down a little; but i like the off road (baja) look. So I want to level mine off...maybe get a body lift, 3" in front 1" in back then get a suspension lift with better shocks when they become available for the front....
