Last week I purchased a 05 Dakota SLT Quad Cab 4.7 V8 (5000 mi). I traded in a 1998 F150. This truck will be driven by my Son and his family who are currently in college. Furnishing transportation is our contribution to his education. He is 32 yrs old, a VET and has all other bases covered. This enables him to be a full time student.
I doubt he will realize a remarkable difference in gas mileage, but was hoping for a little improvement over the 5.4 V8 "LARGE" Ford. he has driven for several years.
I do have a question for you better informed Dodge owners. If I didn't look at it wrong, the wheels on this truck are 17". Is this correct? They are chrome clad aluminum. I looked at the Dodge web site and they look much like the wheels on the Laramie, but it says they are 18". Were 17" wheels an option for the 05s' ???? I can't run out and look at them, as the truck is with him now and he is 100 miles away.

Thanks

I think the 07 Laramie chrome wheels are 18's (the ones currently talked about on Dodge's website), but in 05/06 they were 17". My SLT wheels are 16" (non-chromed). His most likely are of the 17" variety.

Thanks for clearing that up folks. I guess the guy who bought it new had those wheels put on. Not standard equipment on SLT. I thought surley I didn't slip that bad, but who knows? I've noticed lately that I do things like that.

BTW, I drove that truck around for a couple of days while getting the tags/title etc. No problems noticed whatsoever. First time the Son drove it, and I was with him, the brakes got the "shakes". It did it again before we got home, but he tells me it has not done it since! ??? I have been reading about his problem, so I am expecting that he will eventually have to take it in to have it seen about.
