K&N FIPK kit
I have the 63 series filter FIPK on my truck with the K&N Air intake. I think it is not smog legal in CA. But it does help some with performance. I have cleaned my filter once, and it is really easy to clean and re-oil, saves me a ton of money by not having to buy new filters. When I first got it, I went from an avg 13-14mpg to 16-17mpg. Now that I have my BFG all terrains though i'm back down to 14mpg...
It took me about an hour and a half to install. Most of the time was spent for me was spent taking out the original air intake. I've installed 2 of them, one in my truck, and one in my friend's Ram 1500. They're pretty easy to install.
Jimbo, I agree about the install time. It took longer to take the stock out than put the new one in. But it took me about 2 hours vs. your 1-1/2 hours. It was about 38F outside and the wind was ridiculous. So, it was a case of do a few things and then go inside to warm up. Wife and I orig. from San Diego, so this cold sucks. I haven't noticed the increase in fuel mileage yet, but it could be this winter gas.
I kind of think the better gas mileage isn't gonna happen
I mean with an intake on our motors....it growls....and you wanna hear that....so instead you just keep stomping on the gas and decreasing your fuel mileage....lol

my install was simple. first thing i did was assem. intake on my kitchen table. saw how everthing went together , heat shield an all. removed stock air box and installed intake. alot easier than trying to piece intake together in engine compartment
