Synthetic oil, when to change?
Oh ya it's time to rotate my tires too[sm=smiley14.gif] That sounds like a good schedule to me mudbug. Have you had the bruteforce intake long? I got one a couple weeks ago.
I have been using BlackStone Labs to check my oil. Did it in my Corvette, Miata and 2000 Dakota.
They tell me how long my Mobil 1 lasts. I got the turbo Miata up to 6000 miles between oil changes. Visit their web site. http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ and save yourself some $$$$$$$.

I just switched oils. I went from what ever the dealership used to Royal Purple. WIth that one, you change the oil the first time around 3000-4000 miles. After that, you're able to change it every 12,000 miles. Here's their website:http://royalpurple.com/techa/whyrpa.html. So far, I'm very happy with the way my truck has responded to the new oil. Runs smoother, and I have felt a little bit of gain in power. Eventually, I'm going to go with their ATF on the next change.
Man, you guys go real easy huh? I change my Mobil 1 about every 10,000 to 15,000 miles. I used to work at a Mercedes Benz Dealership and there normal oil change interval with this oil and there cars was 10,000 miles. Thats not what sold me on it though. My father put 400,000 miles on a toyota 4x4, 1986. It didnt start to even burn oil until about 260,000 miles and it had oil changes every 10,000 miles. Also, another car we had with 10k changes on mobil 1 was a mercury tracer, 1994. It has about 180,000 miles on it and i swear to you we fill it up with mobil one and dont even think about it until 10k comes up because it doesnt burn over a half a quart in that time.
Its some good stuff and I change it every 15k in my brand new dakota.

i just put synthetic in my truck for the first time on Sunday. I'm figuring, with the miles I drive (2,000 or so a month, mostly highway) that I can get 5,000 before I need to change it again. My mechanic (good friend of mine) went with Mobil 1 (the truck/SUV blend).
ORIGINAL: BADDAK
I ran my jeep om mopar filters and oil, no syn. oil. 116,000 miles & still going strong. I dont believe in syn. oil.

I just went with Mobil 1 for my first change. With previous vehicles Ichangedthe Mobil 1every 6,000. Never had any problems. So that's what I'll do with the Dak. The Jiffy Lube I go to does the lube jobs for the patrol cars for our local sherriff's department, and they do theirs with Mobil 1 every 9,000,and I can only imagine how hard they run their vehicles.Been using Mobil 1 for several years, and it's the only way to go in my opinion.
I use Amsoil oil and filters. Both are rated at 25,000 miles or one year (whichevery occures first). I normal don't put more than 10,000 miles a year on my truck. Most other syn oils I would change oil and filter every 5,000 miles or 6 months. It isn't so much that the other syn oils are not that good, but their additive packages are not designed to last more than 5,000 miles and almost all oil filters are useless after 5,000 miles.
