Default Synthetic oil, when to change?

This is the first new vehicle I've owned in 20 years, so I thought I'd put better oil in it. Castrol syntec, how many miles should I put on this oil before changing it? I was figuring on changing the filter every 3500 miles or so. And I've been using bosch filters, I've been told that they are better than most. What do you guys think?[sm=smiley25.gif]

don't waste your money on a fake Syn like Castrol Syntec. Spend it something better like AMSOIL, Mobil 1 or even Royal Purple. Plus, save some more money by leaving it in at least 5000 miles, get some benefit out of the extra expense you will have with buying a better product.

I am an AMSOIL user myself and wouldn't use anything else but you make your own decision. Good luck

I use castrol gtx syntec in both my trucks. and I am really happy with it. as far as oil changes go, I change the oil in the 99 every 5,000kms and use a fram synthetic oil filter. and I put the used oil outta the 99 into the 88. cause it still looks like new and it helps covering the cost from normal oil.

I heard really good things about amsoil, but its really hard to find.

I jsut changed mine to mobile one. My truck has less than 8k on it but I drive it hard so I figured I should run better oil. I think it help on MPG by a few tenths of a mile. Expensive oil change but good pieace of mind I guess.

Thanks for the input guys, still didn't get a straight answer on how long I can go between changes, is 5-6000 miles ok if I change the filter more often? I just grabbed the castrol cause I usually use the regular castrol gtx. I've tried the amway oil before, it seemed ok but just think it's weird how you have to buy it, especially in this day & age. I just don't like that kind of thing, whether it's oil or a kirby vaccuum or whatever[sm=forgetit.gif]

i go every 4500 on my synthetic. i forgot what i use. but i go to jiffy lube 49.99 for everything. because thw first time i change out my oil, more went on the driveway than in the container. becareful. there is a cross member in the way and if you dont get the funnel just rite oil everywere.

That's about what I was thinking, 4500, 5000 if it's mostly highway miles, probably change the filter at 3000 or something. Ya that crossmember is in the wrong place, but my drainpan is big enough to catch everything, then I just take brakecleaner to clean off the crossmember when I'm done

I use Mobil 1 and do an oil change and tire rotation every 5,000 miles.
