Default Rust on Bumper

hey guys, I have an 06 Dakota that is starting to rust on the rear bumper. My question is is this covered under any kind of warranty and if so which one. My truck will be 1yr old on the 29th but I do have 13,000 on it.

Thanks

your truck should be covered bumper to bumper for 3yr/36000 miles. but dont know if that is going to be a defect. or if they try and tell you something different. if the bumper is already rusting than whats the rest of truck look like?

I believe our trucks have a total rust warranty on them, unless for some reason you submerged your truck in a pool for a few days, but take it to the dealer to get it fixed.

the rest of the truck is in perfect condition, i got hit in the bumper in traffic going 3 mph so its pretty much where it took a scratch, is where it is rusting. I'll have to stop off at the dealer on Monday then and see what they say

why should the dealer cover rust where it is damaged? Just get some good chrome cleaner and get it off, mothers works well.

Take QCDAKblue's advice. Go over the spot with a good quality chrome cleaner then wax.If it hasn't started to pit you should be o.k. But that spot will still be prone to rust if you don't keep after it.

Yup

x3....they're both right....chrome cleaner will remove the surface rust easily. You'll just have to do it more often though because it's exposed metal now.

I would suggest cleaning it, then applying a very subtle amount of "chrome paint". They will sell it at any auto parts store or paint store. Make sure you let it fully cure and you pay attention to detail. If you do it correctly, you will not be able to notice it, and you will have sealed it from the elements.

Yeah that's a good idea to touch it up, AFTER you clean it of course

BUT.....that chrome paint doesn't look anything like chrome. Granted it's better than nothing protecting the metal....but just be preparedbecause it won't match perfectly at all
