Fiberglass quad cab sub enclosures?

Hey guys, I was playing around in the back of the truck today and had a good idea on a sub enclosure similar to the MTX style. it wouldn't go over the hing though. I can fit a 1.15 ft3 box back there. I am not sure what the MTX is, but 1.0 is a pretty standard sealed requirment for most 10's. what I am wondering is this. If I was to start making these on my spare time, would anybody buy them. I could sell them for a lot cheaper than the MTX too. I would have to play around with tuning and stuff though. to make sure it sounded good. and they would prolly just be carpeted... I just wanted to throw out a feeler. I have the night off I guess so I had some thinking time on my hands.
oh yeah, the price would prolly be around $100... not sure though. the biggest part is time. meterials isn't too much, but it takes a couple of days to do fiberglass right...

What side of the seat are you thinking about???
And if you made it compatible so that the seat could still flip up....people would be all over these!!!
The MTX box fits all Quad Cabs....so you could market these to the Gen II guys too!

unfortunatly, the seat wont flip up... I could build a pre-loaded box with a pioneer sub, and have it flip up... but that sub is crap. it is the same side of the seat as the mtx... the only difference is it isnt ABS it is fiberglass and it has a slightly larger air space for a little better sub... I am still working on it, formulating ideas and such.
There is a seat mod I read about on another site. You remove the rear seat back portionfrom the veh, grind down the two tabs on the back of that seatback--the tabsthat fit into the slots on the back wall of the truck. If it's ground down to thet first weld/indentation area (per this other guy), once it's put all back together, the tab is long enough to engage the part on the back of the track when the bottom seat is down, but as soon as you lift up the lower seat alittle, the upper part disengages with the back wall and now the seat back will fold down on top of the bottom---and still open the seat bottom to access tools, etc.
Hmm...I sort of understand that trick, but the seat won't go up all the way because the bottom cushion slams into the sub box......well that's how I dented my JL sub grille when I was hooking up my amp......I didn't have the uprightcushion on and was making the connections under the lower cushion and had it only so high because the bottom cushion was smashed into the grille for the sub

theonly problem I see with that, is in the event of an accident, you would have a sub box able to get loose and fly around... from what I have been seeing, the seat provides an extra layer to hold the box in. I still suggest holding the box down by mounting it with bolts... how ever you do it is up to you... I guess if you bolted it down the seat mod wouldnt be bad. but if you dont bolt it down it may be a hazard.
If your looking for a sub that will fit check out the kenwood preamped sub i think it will fit underneath the rear seat. They work with one active sub and one passive radeater speaker .

well, as far as subs that fit, Mtx has the one that comes in the box, a JL W0 or W1 will fit, and Alpine type E or S, Polk Momo SVC, rockford fosgate P1 and 2... now getting the right sealed airspace is the problem...
the MTX has .783 ft3. not bad, but not a lot of woofers like that little of air... mine will have about .93 ft3
getting closer to that 1 ft3 mark that most of the above mentioned subs want. so close, that a little polyfil will get you where you want to be, sound wise.
I started on it today... I am fighting the cold though. my garage is heated, but if I dont have a door open, I get high as a kite off the fumes... so I have to work when I get time during the day. once I get one done, any others that I do, should be a piece of cake.
