I saw somewhere on the dodge site where they called ours 3rd gens, cant remember where though

The 87-96 Dakota is Gen 1 - the redesign in 91 was nothing more then a few minor changes, not enough changes made to consider it a new gen

97-04 Dakota is Gen 2

05-07 Dakota is Gen 3....

THERE IS NO 4TH GENERATION DAKOTA....... enough said......not to mention even Dodge considers the 05 a 3rd gen....
