Aftermarket remote start!!!
For starters i have a 2011 (2 week old) heat! LOVE IT
For all of you that have doubted this.. guess again.. The setup i used is a truely 98% plug-n-play system (it will also work on the push button versions of the durango) it will not kill the vehicle when you open the door like some say it will.
Here is a list of my equipment:
-Autopage RS625 (remote starter/keyless)
-Idatalink ADS-HRN CH4 (t-harness to match factory plugs behind the ignition switch)
-Idatalink ADS-AL CA (firmware CH4) (bypass module, this is what "talks" to the factory computer)
-The only wire that has to "tapped" in is the parking lights wire (this wire is located at the switch)
-All the powers and grounds from the remote start hook directly into the bypass module
-To gain access to the wires at the ignition switch i removed the gauge cluster (3 t-20 torx screws)
- I unpluged the factory harness leading to the ignition switch. pluged that harness into its mating end on the t-harness, pluged the male end of the t-harness back into the ignition switch.
At this point you are complete if you dont want parking lights hooked up to it.
If you want the lights there is a single wire off of the bypass module that you tap onto the factory lights wire.
Now you can program everything (module you need to follow a specific instruction) (i know its hard for us guys.. lol)
Now put your vehicle back together and enjoy!!
Sorry i didnt take pics. i thought about doing that after i was putting it back together.
I think for me the longest part was getting the vehicle apart!!
I am a former installer for 12 years, but i havnt had my head under a dash in over 2 years... by far the EASIEST vehicle i have EVER done!!
Best thing.. if something ever goes worng i can remove it easily and the dealer will never know it was in there!!

Range for one.. no factory one can do up to a mile! (most factory ones only go about 500' at most if that). accessories also they have controlers for smart phones so that acts as your remote. similar to those onstar commericials you see. 2-way capability also it confirms back to you on the remote when its running
I also wired mine into the gas cap. so i can release the cap from my remote.
not all of durangos come with a stock remote start also

i had a long range remote start in my TBSS. i have had 5 other GM's with factory remote start. yes the TBSS could go farther out to start, but if you hold the key fob under your chin and open your mouth the range almost doubles (no, i'm not kidding. learned this as a young lot boy at a car dealership 20 years ago. something about your mouth and fillings being used as a repeater lol) that's good enough for me, but hey better is better. good job

1st: Where the hell do you live that you live 1 mile from where you park your car?
2nd: Putting anything on my phone to run my very expensive suv is very scary indeed.
3rd: If you live so far away from your suv/car that you have to have conformation it cranked instead of hearing it in the driveway from the couch or looking outside seems weird to me, but hey to each their own....
4th: Why would you want to release your gas cap from a distance when you have to be beside the suv to refuel it?
And your final point.......
how much does this system cost because any person can buy the security and ignition system through dodge for less than 600 and is guaranteed to work as a plug in dodge selected software that is installed into the original system by dodge technicians.
So any real world advantages or reason besides just being different?
Just pulling your chain, but I thought I would have a little fun.

What the purpose of the longer range needed and the phone apps?? I can sit at my desk and start my vehicle.. I can be in a shopping mall on a cold winter day and warm it up before i get to my vehicle. When i travel i can start it when my plane lands and its warm for me. i can unlock it for someone if they need to get into my vehicle.. the options are endless. i can have it start for me if it gets too cold. i can have it start at a certain programmed time...
I dont need the longer range at home. but i dont know about your house but mine is new and insulated very well that i cant hear it start in the driveway..
And do realize the one you paid 600 for more than likely was made by an aftermarket company.. just like the radios are made by alpine.. Why would dodge "re-invent" it if all they had to do was put it in.
And if you get a "dealer" installed one they are 100% aftermarket.

Thats too funny.. I used to do that with the basic cheap remote starters back in the day too.. lol
Im $200 into the entire project! You can pay your 600 if you want to. im just simply showng the durango community that it can be done.

I did not have one installed aftermarket, mine came on my citadel. Also the systems installed by dealerships are plug-in as you call them and use the same key fob after being reprogrammed. You don't have to defend yourself I said I was yanking your chain. Like I said to each their own and more power to you for doing your own kit.
