From a quick search online, I found these guys:

http://www.sigmaautomotive.com/FoliaTec/antenna.php

No idea how well they work and also looks like this would just be for FM. Doesn't say anything about SAT. Anyone heard of em?

I simply unscrewed the whip antennae. I did not replace it with another- works fine when listening to satellite or AM radio. No problems even on a long trip from Los Angeles to Monterey. Try it.

Since you've already taken it off, maybe you could tune a local FM station and tell us how it is.

And when you unscrew it, is there not any "hole" of sorts that might let water in the antenna mechanism?

The hole should be just for the threads and not extended beyond that. With that said, fill the hole with a dap of silicone to keep water out or it will surely rust up in there.

Has anybody done a shark fin mod to their whip antenna yet?
