Default Dealer Advertised Lifetime Powertrain Warranty

I have been looking at the 2012 Durango Citadel lately, came across a dealer advertising a complementary lifetime powertrain warranty. Anyone ever hear about something like this before. They are competitive on the vehicle prices just wondering if it is worthwhile.

See Link to dealer site.

I wonder if its really for free. I know when I bought my 2011 durango citadel it was 3100 for the lifetime warranty through chrysler. If you get a 2011 you get free maint. for 3 years and you get sirius tv for 1 year also..they have removed both of these features for 2012.

+1 for "read the fine print"

Went to the URL listed at the bottom of the ad, which brings you to a FAQ type page. Here's a couple of interesting ones.

Q: How do I know what maintenance is required to keep my Warranty Forever contract in force?
A: It is required that you maintain the vehicle with the selling dealer or a pre-authorized facility in accordance to the Manufacturer's Recommended Maintenance Schedule. To check to see the maintenance required for each particular make and model, please click here: Edmunds Recommended Maintenance. If you have any further questions, please contact a Claims Specialist at 1-800-810-8458.

Q: If my car breaks down and the breakdown is covered by the Warranty Forever Contract given to me by my selling dealer, am I required to pay for the repair and then wait to be reimbursed?
A: No, all repairs are paid by National Warranty Administration Network (NWAN) by credit card. Please be sure that all repairs are authorized prior to the repair being completed. All unauthorized repairs will not be covered.

Q: What if I am traveling out of town and have a breakdown that would be covered under my Warranty Forever Contract?
A: Although you are required to have all repairs performed at your selling dealer, if you are over 150 miles or more away from your selling dealer, you may take your vehicle to any licensed repair facility to have your repair work completed. You may call us at 1-800-810-8458 for assistance or you may contact your selling dealer’s service department for details. Please remember - all out of state repair service must be preauthorized or the repairs performed by an outside dealer will not be accepted.
Call me a skeptic, but it looks like there are enough loopholes in the contract that getting coverage will be a real pain.

There are offers just too good to be true. Some of these Lifetime waranty are atually offered by aftermarket company. When your engine does break down, your vehicle will stay in the shop for 2 weeks just waiting for a Junkyard motor from somewhere. No rental will be provided, and they will also find all sort of excuse they could to get away.
And of course, they will require you to do all of your maintainence thru the selling dealership religiously.

If you want an extended waranty, go for the Chrysler one or any Manufacturer offers. 5 days rental, only new OEM parts, and no questions asked unless repair bill is over $6000.
Honestly, If you do your maintainence according to the Owners manual, these engine and trans will last!

If the price are right from that dealership. then just take the waranty as granted, it doesnt hurt.

Very true, I think this is why the 44re, 46re, and 47re got such a bad rep. The manual says fluid changes and band adjustments every 30k, so when the tranny goes out a 150k and you never touched the trans or changed fluid what did you expect? (heard this happen many times unfortunately, then they blame dodge for a crappy trans when they didn't maintenance it!) Sorry I'm venting a bit cause of stupidity (or ignorance) these people have cause I know they knew how to do it.

I got the lifetime warranty and paid 2600. Having owned a Saturn Outlook in the past which went through 3 transmissions, 2 AC motors, 2 driveshafts (that literally fell of the vehicle at 20 mph) Covers everything but normal wear items...brakes, tires, etc.

One major repair and it pays for itself. Especially after it is out of warranty. Plan on keeping my Gun-Metal Grey Citadel for awhile. The lifetime says you can take it to ANY repair facility.

Niegel,

I took a look at the link you provided. The Lifetime Warranty as advertised is through a aftermarket warranty/service contract company. Don't see what it could hurt if they give it to you although I suspect they are just building the price of the warranty into the vehicle.

If you do go ahead with the purchase just make sure you read the Lifetime Warranty agreement to understand what must be done for you to be covered or reimbursed. On a side note, Lifetime Powertrain Warranty or a Lifetime Maximum Care service contracts are available, on most Chrysler vehicles that are under 3 years old and 36,000 miles and can be purchased at most Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram dealers or by visiting servicecontracts.chrysler.com. Please remember service contracts are negotiable in price in most states. Further, Chrysler Service Contracts are honored by all Chrysler dealers in the United States without having to pay up front and submit repair bills as happens with many aftermarket contract companies.
