Default Extended Warranty?

I'm still in the negotiating stages on a 2011 Citadel and I am wondering if anyone has thoughts about the extended warranty. I'm trading in an 05 JGC that has been perfect. Didn't purchase one with it and never needed it. I did a search on extended warranties and didn't find much. If I missed it, point me in the right direction.

Did you purchase one with your Durango?
How much did you pay?
Any tips to offer?

Thanks for all the great info on here!

JJPonzini,

I paid 2k for the Unlimited Mileage Advanced Care for my 11 Citadel. I wanted to have the security of a lifetime warranty since it was my first Dodge and wasn't sure about it's reliability.

If you do decide to get one make sure it is from a reputable company with a long history of good reviews. The dealership can source these warranties from anywhere, even themselves. There can be a whole lot in the fine print about deductibles, mods, what voids the warranty, and other potential loopholes. The terms of these warranties can also be misleading; if you buy a 7 yr 100K plan, it’s not in addition to the factory warranty, it’s 7 yrs 100K minus the factory warranty (unless otherwise stated). So if you buy a 7 yr 100K plan for $3,000 and the factory warranty is 5 yr 75K plan, you only added 2 yrs and 25K miles to your plan for $3K + any deductibles. With that said, I didn’t buy one for either of my Ds.
--- Also the price is negotiable.
And good luck on the purchase of that Citadel!

I did the 7/70 deal at the dealer. Built into my service contract. It was $20 extra monthly.

Bumper to bumper...pretty sure. Basically extends the 3/36 to 7/70 but you're paying for it now instead of as a lump sum later.

You can Buy extended waranty later on. For chrysler one, you can get one b4 factory 3/36k waranty expires. Drive it 2 or 3 years, and see how it hold up, and then decide.
I highly recommand Chrysler Max Care for Citadel model. Because it literally covers everything. A bad Radio can run you $1000. Only difference between that the factory 3/36 is it doesn't cover interior trim pieces, belts, and Muffler, and some misc maintainence items.

Extended waranty is for peace of mind. Most of the time, I found paying out of your pocket for 100k miles cheaper than buying extended waranty, if you have a good mechanic/dealership. On newer cars, most of your spending will be maintainence items. And extended waranty has a dedutible, which could get costly after few visit...

If all goes well, we'll keep our Citadel 7-8 years tops. We did not get one for our Honda Pilot, which we had for almost 8 years.

Lucky you. Here in FL, car warranties are regulated and it's the same price no matter what and they want $3100+tax. I "think" it's illegal to buy warranty from somebody out of state. Still thinking of doing it. I would just keep it forever then! Nice to think that I would no longer need to worry about mileage or anything.

Edit:

Wait, is "unlimited mileage advanced" care a level below "unlimited mileage max" ?
