An open filter makes quite a bit more noise than a stock air box. On a Hemi above 4k rpm it's quite deep and loud. It almost scared me the first time I mashed on the throttle after putting an air aid on my ram.

As for the K & N I would hardly call that a heat shield. True the air aid doesn't have a tube but the shield covers three sides and seals to the hood when it's closed.

Noise is right. Better off updating the exahaust system, save ur money on the "CAI" even though none I saw on this site should be classified as one.
I hooked one up on my stock SRT8 and it makes really annoying noise at idle, so I returned it. Had one on my Camaro years ago and with the mods I had on it you couldn't hear the CAI.

+1 on noise.

-1 on the Ram. We aren't talking about Rams, we are talking about Gen3 Durangos. The sound insulation on a new Durango is multiple levels better than anything ever found on a Ram.

AND seriously... in the end, "loud" is 99.999% related to exhaust note. Not intake air.

Yeah i think I'm going to take my D to a muffler shop and see how much they would charge to remove the resonators.

I wouldn't bust a nut looking for a CAI heat shield. Once you are going down the road at 30+ mph, you won't see any difference in the intake temp. Unless you are drag racing, you don't need to be too worried about the intake temp taking off from a dead stop. Think about it. How many of us notice our vehicles being significantly slower in the summer vs in the winter. On a hot summer day, even with the best CAI, your intake temp is still going to be 90+. How much slower do you think your vehicle is than in the winter when the temp is 20? Yeah, you might really be a tenth or two slower, but nothing you are going to notice in daily driving.

While I'm not disputing the D is quieter it's absolutely not multiple levels better than a 4th gen ram. The 4th gen Ram is the vehicle that started all the improvement for Chrysler and it's quiet an impressive cruiser in its own right.

and again an open air filter is loud. vehicle with an exhaust(full system, mufflers, x pipes, resonators removed, whatever you want to do) = loud. Vehicle with modified exhaust and an open air intake = louder. Both inside and outside of it, any way you want to slice it.

It is very noticeable on turbo charged cars, as you said on a N/A car it wont be. Whether or not you can tell, heat hurts performance which is why there are multiple product on the market to help cars run cooler. Hell go to any drag strip and everyone's pushing cars in the staging lanes and sitting ice on the intake.
